Norfolk is nothing if it's not flat - which makes it ideal for walking and cycling, of course. Today, I'm going to tell you about the special trail that winds its way through Stalham: Weavers Way. If you're a fan of peaceful walks and breathtaking landscapes, you're in for a treat!
What is Weavers Way?
Weavers Way is a lovely walking trail that stretches for miles through the picturesque countryside surrounding Stalham. It's named after the skilled weavers who once worked in the area, creating beautiful fabrics from the wool of local sheep.
Weavers' Way spans 61 miles (98 km) and is a long-distance footpath, mostly tracing the former route of the Aylsham to Great Yarmouth railway line (the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway, and which ceased operation in 1959). You'll sometimes find the odd relic of an old bridge or track along the way, gloriously overgrown. The majority of the Weavers' Way, stretching from Aylsham to North Walsham and Bengate to Stalham, is suitable for cycling or horse riding.
If you're cycling, try the route from Stalham to Bengate and there's another from North Walsham to Aylsham. Both can be enjoyed in either direction, promising diverse sights and experiences upon the return journey.
For a more extensive ride, navigate the back lanes between Bengate and North Walsham to link the two routes together.
