Dog-Friendly Beaches Near the Norfolk Broads (Plus Parking & Best Times)

One of the best things about a Norfolk Broads stay is how easy it is to mix rivers and beaches. You can spend the morning on the water and still catch a sunset walk by the sea.

This is Great Yarmouth North, a favourite with our dogs but there are many beaches nearer, and sandier!

How to choose the right beach

Check seasonal dog restrictions, aim for early or late in the day, and bring fresh water — salty swims are thirsty work. These are all very local to Dune Roamin' and Tail End:

Sea Palling

Dog restrictions in the summer months in the middle section of the beach.

Waxham

No dog restrictions

Horsey

No dog restrictions BUT

Horsey beach sees an influx of breeding grey seals in the winter.  The beach, itself, is closed from November to January owing to the seals but you can still access the dunes and get to see the seal pups up close. Please keep dogs under control and on leads. They are dangerous to the seal pups - and vice versa!

Bacton

Dog restrictions in the summer months between the main groynes of the beach.

Walcott

Dog restrictions in Walcott in the summer months between the main groynes of the beach.

Happisburgh

No dog restrictions

Check the tides

Here are the tides for Sea Palling but once you're in, you can check any of these beaches - in some, at high tide, there won't be a beach there at all!

Parking tips

Arrive early in peak season. Keep coins or a card handy for pay-and-display, and save your spot location if you’re exploring dunes.

Make it a relaxed day

Pack a towel, a long lead, and a simple picnic. A calm plan beats trying to squeeze in too much.

After a sandy day out, it’s lovely to return to a comfortable, pet-friendly base. Both of our Norfolk Nooks are set up for exactly that.

... and Stay at Dune Roamin', Sea Palling

You're not going to get a lot closer to the beach than this! A beautiful, sandy beach with lovely walks in both directions, and dogs are allowed on the right beach even in the Summer season (and in both directions in the off season).
